At Nomad Budgeter, accuracy is our priority. We know you're making major life decisions based on this data, so we want to be completely transparent about how our engine works.
Tax Calculations (2026 Edition)
Our tax engine is manually updated to reflect the latest legislated tax brackets for 2026. This includes:
- Digital Nomad Visa specific tax regimes (e.g., Spain's Beckham Law, Greece's 50% exemption).
- Progressive income tax brackets for standard residency.
- Social security contributions where applicable.
- 0% tax jurisdictions (e.g., UAE, Malaysia).
Cost of Living Data
Cost of living (COL) figures are aggregated from multiple APIs and adjusted for recent inflation. Our estimates cover:
- Accommodation: Based on 1-bedroom apartments in city centers.
- Food: A mix of groceries and dining out.
- Workspace: Monthly co-working desk rates.
- Utilities & Internet: Standard monthly bills.
Note: Lifestyle choices heavily impact COL. We provide baseline estimates for a comfortable expat standard of living.
The Vitality Score (Aura)
The "Vitality Score" or "Aura Score" (0-100) is our proprietary algorithm designed to grade the overall financial efficiency of a move. It balances three factors:
- Tax Efficiency (30%): How much of your gross income you keep.
- Savings Power (40%): Your ability to save absolute dollars after expenses.
- Cost of Living Health (30%): The relative affordability of the destination.
A score above 80 indicates an exceptional opportunity for wealth building.
